Welcome to Ask the Meadmaker, where I, Lillian...
Ricky
Welcome to Ask the Meadmaker where I, Ricky the Meadmaker, usually answer your questions about mead making, mead drinking, mead brewing and any questions you're willing to send to me, but I have a special guest today, Lillian, who's going to help me make one of her famous cocktails.
Now, Lillian is only six, and you've never had any cocktails to drink, right? So, how do you make cocktails?
Lillian
First, you put in the bitters.
Ricky
How do you know what bitters to use?
Lillian
Because I smelled them.
Ricky
What is this?
Lillian
Orange.
Ricky
How many drops?
Lillian
Two.
Ricky
And you picked out this one also. Smell that one.
Lillian
Rhubarb.
Ricky
Yep. It's one of her favorites to work with. Rhubarb bitters add a lot to mead cocktails, right?
Lillian
Mm hmm!
Ricky
So, this, I thought was an interesting selection. So, we're using Bombay Sapphire gin, but we're not using it because of the alcohol or the gin, right? We're using it because of the things that it smells like. We're basically using it like bitters. So, what does that smell like?
Lillian
Blueberries?
Ricky
It's got blueberries.
Lillian
Orange?
Ricky
Oranges, all sorts of things in it. So, we're just going to put the barest, teeniest, tiniest, drop. Perfect. And now one of my personal favorites, which you like to use in your chaos. Pimm's Number One. So, this one is also a gin technically, for those who have not had it before. What does that smell like?
Lillian
It kind of smells like rhubarb.
Ricky
It does have kind of like a rhubarb, earthy, herby smell. So, when you're dealing with chaos, which is an apple vanilla mead,
Lillian
Ooh!
Ricky Klein
Mm hmm. You can really work off of any of the aspects of it, but chaos...
Lillian
Chaos!
Ricky Klein
Chaos. A little bit of chaos to finish...
Lillian
And we're done.
Ricky Klein
That's how you make a Lillian special. Trust your nose if you don't have a Lillian's nose around. And I'll be back to answer more questions in a couple weeks. So, keep sending your questions. I'll get to them as soon as possible. Cheers.
