This week, we sat down and interviewed Ricky the Meadmaker about the next in our New Year, New Mead campaign. Here's a look at Havoc's own Root of All Evil.
What are the tasting notes for Root of All Evil?
Color - Dark Yellow
Aroma - Bright Ginger
Flavor - Spicy Ginger with layers of honey
Closest Comparison - Jamaican Ginger Beer
What gave you the idea to make a ginger mead? It’s actually an old recipe for Jamaican Ginger Beer, but due to… questionable federal regulations, it can’t be sold as “Ginger Beer” simply because it’s brewed from honey. Incidentally, the United States is one of the only places (if not the only place) that has this law regarding ginger beer. So, we brewed it up and came up with a new name!
OK, so we know that it should be Rhizome of All Evil, but never let botanical accuracy get in the way of a good pun.
Can you tell us a little about the Maple edition? It’s such an unusual combination, maple and ginger. What was the inspiration behind this?We work closely with our friends at Runamok Maple to come up with cool collaborations from their maple infused ingredients, and being a Vermont meadery, this seemed like the perfect beverage!
My absolute favorite thing about working events is sampling mead with folks, and nothing is easier than sampling Root of All Evil:
Ricky: Do you like ginger?
Tippler: Not especially.
Ricky: Then let’s move on to Nordic Farmhouse!
Or, alternatively,
Ricky: Do you like ginger?
Swilker: Heck yes I do!
Ricky: Then you are going to love Root of All Evil.
